Junior Jefferson (Jeff) Meek was born January 19, 1926 in Gordonville, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. W.
O. Meek. He passed away on March 25, 2005. He grew up near Hollis, Oklahoma on a farm. He joined the Navy when World
War II began, just after his 17th birthday. His 18th birthday was spent on
Guadalcanal, one of the pivotal battles of the war. He received a back and
leg injury in 1944 and after many months of hospitalization he was sent home with a medical discharge. Shortly after returning home he married
Maudie Heflin also of Hollis.
Jeff was saved in the Baptist Tabernacle of Altus, Oklahoma,
Everett Beaty, pastor. He surrendered for the ministry at a youth camp in Texas and that fall he and Maudie came to Baptist Bible
College. The last two years of college he pastored a church in Bolivar, Missouri. Jeff and Maudie were approved as Baptist Bible Missionaries to
Chile in May of 1956. Health problems forced them to come back to the states in 1959 and they were reinstated in 1968 to go to Costa Rica after he
has pastored a work in Gardena, California. He started 7 works in Costa Rica arid innumerable men have surrendered to the ministry under his
leadership. He majored on training National pastors and workers at the Bible College he started.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Maudie, 3 daughters, Karry Barnes, who serves
as a missionary along with her husband John in Costa Rica, Nancy Gann of
Springfield, Missouri and Annette Perez who with her husband Ramon are also missionaries in Costa Rica. The Meek family is one of only a few who
have third generation missionaries on the field. The two daughters of John
and Karry Barnes, Regina Franklin and daughter Rachael Weed are both missionaries. In total Bro. Meeks is survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
